The Long-billed Tailorbird Artisornis moreaui¬†is one of Africa’s most mysterious and enigmatic bird species. There are two known populations – one in the East Usambaras, Tanzania, and the other on the Njesi Plateau (Serra Jeci) in northern Mozambique. I have a long-standing interest in this species’ natural history, and in understanding differences between the two isolated populations. Forthcoming research will detail the results of Mozambique fieldwork in 2011, supported by¬†the Mohamed bin Zayed Species Conservation Fund and the Museum of Vertebrate Zoology, to understand the status of the Njesi Plateau population, and how it differs from the East Usambara population.
