I do research on ecology, evolution, behavior, and conservation, primarily of birds. I focus most of my energy on the topics of speciation, diversification, and trait evolution. Current projects with my postdoctoral advisor J. Gordon Burleigh include ‘big data’ studies of the timing and outcomes of secondary contact during bird speciation and the influence of behavior on plumage evolution.
I did my PhD work with Rauri Bowie at UC Berkeley. I studied speciation, song divergence, and contact zone dynamics in an eastern African species complex of montane forest sunbirds.
